Seward House Museum

The Seward House Museum connects people to the legacy of the Seward family and interprets their vision for equality, service, democracy, and progress.

In 1951 William Henry Seward III bequeathed the family home in Auburn, NY to the Fred L. Emerson Foundation to serve as living memorial to his famous father and grandfather. After a few years of careful preparation, the Seward House opened to the public in 1955, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964, and now displays one of the most original collections of any historic home in America. In 2008 the museum established itself as its own independent 501-C3 not for profit museum.

The Seward House Museum is seeking finance committee members. The finance committee and full board meet quarterly (separate meetings). There are currently 16 Trustees, with capacity up to 20. There are six or seven full-time staff as well as ~20 volunteers that run the Museum. Accounting is outsourced to Dannible & McKee, CPAs who maintain the accounting records. The annual audit is performed by Evens and Bennett CPAs. This is truly a governance board.

David's Refuge

David’s Refuge helps prevent caregiver burnout. By offering oasis-like getaways, wellness programs, and community, they ensure caregivers feel refreshed, supported, and know they are not alone.

Core Components of the Mission:

Respite & Restoration: Offers weekend getaways at local bed-and-breakfasts and reimbursement-based trips to help caregivers rest and reconnect.
Support & Wellness: Provides year-round, five-area wellness support including counseling in partnership with CNY Mental Health Counseling.
Community & Connection: Creates a supportive community for parents to share experiences, aiming to combat the isolation often experienced by those raising children with disabilities.
Values-Driven Approach: Rooted in respect, compassion, and empowerment, ensuring caregivers feel valued and supported in their roles.

The organization was founded based on the experience of losing a child to cancer, with the goal of paying forward love and supporting caregivers who are facing similar, challenging circumstances. If interested, contact Kate Houck, CEO.

Syracuse Poster Project
